Will you ask for what you want?

Will you dare to ask for what you want?

I tell you with only slight exaggeration:

“Everything you desire in life can be yours through the power of courage.”

Courage shows itself in many ways.

Two key expressions are saying “no” when you need to say "no" and making requests when you desire something.

When you wanted but did not ask...

  • How often have you longed for something but didn’t ask for it?

  • Have you wished for a more satisfying job that you didn’t pursue?

  • Have you wanted more pay for your work that you didn’t request?

  • Have you craved more leisure time that you didn’t seek?

  • Have you desired a date with someone that you didn’t approach?

  • Have you needed love or attention that you didn’t express?

  • Have you yearned for someone to truly listen that you didn’t ask for?

  • Have you wished for someone to change a behavior that you didn’t mention?

  • Have you contemplated a divorce that you didn’t discuss?

  • Have you wanted to share your deepest feelings that you didn’t reveal?

  • Have you been curious about someone’s thoughts or feelings that you didn’t inquire?

  • Have you longed to make love with someone that you didn’t suggest?

How many more opportunities will you let slip away?

How many chances have you let slip away (for both yourself and others) because you didn’t summon the courage to ask for what you wanted?

Courage!

Certainly, how you make a request matters. But even with the right approach, you’ll still need to choose courage to ask. And, often, even a clumsy request is better than no request at all.

Start by listing the times today when you didn’t ask for what you wanted. Then, experiment with choosing courage to make your requests (one step at a time).

You may be surprised by the outcomes of your requests and by how empowered you feel for having made them!
