Prioritizing Oneself over Others

 

Our number one job, a truth to embrace,
Is caring for Self in life’s every space.
To honor our needs, both short-term and far,
For happiness shines when we tend to our star.

Yet Others within us will softly remind,
To think of their welfare, be gracious and kind.
To look good to them can feel like a must,
But balance demands that we first earn our trust.

When crossroads appear, and the choice feels unclear,

Between serving ourselves or what Others hold dear,

Courage may call us to honor our way,

Though Others feel hurt or dismayed by our say.

​

For short-term and far, and a future that’s bright,
Putting ourselves first is surely our right.
Though Others may frown or misunderstand,
True strength arises when we take a stand.

​

In harmony’s dance, both must play their part,
But caring for Self is the soul of the heart.
With courage as guide, let us boldly pursue,
A balance that’s honest, authentic, and true.
