The Debt That Never Was

We walk beneath a shadowed sky,
A weight we bear, yet know not why.
A debt declared but never owed,
A tale of lack we were bestowed.

We chase, we strive, we fall, we rise,
Yet worth is not a thing to prize.
For all we seek and all we prove,
Is built upon a lie approved.

There is no debt, no score to keep,
No tally carved in stone so deep.
No proof required, no race to run,
We were enough since time begun.

"Not smart enough," "not strong," "not wise,"
A whispered doubt that clouds our skies.
We labor hard to pay a fee,
For chains that never had a key.

What if our plight was never real?
What if we let ourselves just feel?
Not as a ledger marked in red,
But as a life, full-lived instead?

No more the weight, no more the test,
Just joy to give, just peace to rest.
No striving left, no debt to pay,
Just love to live, just light that stays.

There is no debt, no score to keep,
No tally carved in stone so deep.
No proof required, no race to run,
We were enough since time begun.

So lay it down, undo the fight,
Step from the dark into the light.
For all we are and all we'll be,
Is whole, is full, is wild and free.
