Under Promising
UnderPromising
Hopeful, I plan the day ahead,
Hopeful, though filled with quiet dread.
Why do I try to fit so much?
Why does my time feel out of touch?
Why do I say I’ll get it done,
Then face the setting of the sun?
I stack each hour beyond its measure,
Yet wonder why I lose my pleasure.
Why promise things I can’t sustain?
Why chase reward and welcome pain?
I build a tower frail and tall,
Then curse myself when it must fall.
A hurried life can seem like gain,
But leaves a trail of needless strain.
If every moment feels too tight,
How can I greet the coming night?
I’d rather pause, create some space,
And give my heart a gentler pace.
To under promise takes true will—
The courage rare, the quiet thrill.
With fewer tasks, with buffers wide,
I’ll find more peace and joy inside.
For when I claim I’ll do much less,
I open paths to true success.
The days will bring more wins than strife,
More ease and lightness to my life.
And those I meet will feel it too,
When less is promised, more feels true.
Why chase and cram the fleeting day?
Why lose the magic on the way?
By choosing time that’s full, not tight,
I’ll find my way to rest tonight.
The Exponential Inflection Point
In early 2023, my encounter with ChatGPT 3.5 was a lightning bolt of revelation—a moment that compressed decades of technological evolution into a single, breathtaking instant. The cascade of AI innovations followed rapidly: ChatGPT 4, ChatGPT 4o, DALL-E, Bard, Copilot, Gemini, Meta AI, Perplexity, Claude, and a constellation of emerging platforms that seemed to multiply faster than thought itself.
Each new tool arrived like a key, unlocking previously unimagined potential. Ideogram and Suno.com were just the latest portals into this expanding universe of creative possibility. I've embraced these digital companions not as cold machines, but as collaborative partners in our collective journey of innovation and discovery.
We've long marked geological epochs—the Holocene, the Anthropocene emerging around 1950—marking humanity's increasing planetary impact. But now, we stand at the threshold of something profound: the Aiocene. This isn't just a technological shift; it's a fundamental reimagining of intelligence, creativity, and potential. Where the Anthropocene was defined by human agency, the Aiocene promises a symbiotic dance between human imagination and artificial intelligence, transforming how we understand, create, and interact with the world around us.
The future isn't just arriving—it's unfolding at exponential speed, right before our eyes.
(Transparency note: I fed Suno.com with the lyrics and asked it to create the music and voice with just the instructions "disco rap style music with a man's voice that expresses a sense of tiredness and exhaustion, The voice should dominate over the music and vary emphasis based upon the meaning of each verse." But what about the lyrics that I provided to Suno? I had used ChatGPT to create those with some loose instructions as to the content.
I tweaked the resulting poem a bit, but I could give ChatGPT 95% credit for those lyrics.
Then, in what you just read above ⬆️, Claude took what I wrote and said it much better than I had in what you just read. See for yourself. Here ⬇️ is what I ask Claude to rewrite and he gave me what you just read above.)
The exponential inflection point
When I discovered ChatGPT 3.5 in early 2023 I knew the future's arrival had accelerated by a factor of ten plus. Then there was ChatGPT 4 and then ChatGPT 4o, DALL-E, Bard, Copilot, Gemini, Meta AI, Perplexity, Claude, and more. Now I have discovered Ideogram and recently Suno.com.
I have welcomed all of these as my tools and "partners" in making the world an even more amazing place for you and me to thrive.
You heard of eras, like the Holocene and the Anthropocene, which began about 1950, right?. Very soon the Aiocene will, if not already, supplant the Anthropocene.)
