Undoing Seriousness

Let go, be free, embrace the play,
The child in you was born to stay.
So drop the mask, no need to hide,
Just laugh and dance, enjoy the ride.

I've never seen a child so stern,
Who'd rather brood than twist and turn.
They cry, they shout, they make a fuss,
But serious? That comes from us.

We teach them fast to mind the rule,
To stand up straight, to "play it cool."
“Don’t be silly, mask your glee,
Fear how others are judging thee.”

Let go, be free, embrace the play,
The child in you was born to stay.
So drop the mask, no need to hide,
Just laugh and dance, enjoy the ride.

Peek-a-boo and wacky games,
Are first to go in life's fast lane.
We trade our wonder, step in line,
Afraid to look so unrefined.

But what’s the cost of all this care?
A rigid stance, a vacant stare.
We lose our spark, we lose our grace,
We lose the light upon our face.

Connect with others, see their soul,
Don’t glance away, no self-control.
With childlike eyes so open wide,
We need not fear, to run and hide.

Let go, be free, embrace the play,
The child in you was born to stay.
So drop the mask, no need to hide,
Just laugh and dance, enjoy the ride.

So take a step, be bold, be bright,
Make funny faces, skip in light.
For life is short and joy is key,
Undo the weight—and you’ll live free.
