What is enough?

Are you willing to have enough?

Do you have enough money? Do you have enough quality time with your lover or spouse? Do you get enough sleep? Are you organized enough? Do you have enough insurance? Do you spend enough quality time with your kids? What would be enough leisure in your life? What would be enough love in your life?

Ultimately only you can say what is enough

Most of us, in most of our life, never clarify “What is enough?”

As a result, it seems that our life is running us, instead of us running our life. If you are not clear about “What is enough,” then you will always feel the dissatisfaction of never having enough. How can we answer the question “What is enough?”

The power of declaration

Although we can look toward our desires, our desires by themselves can never have the final say in determining “What is enough?” Although we must take our desires into account, the only way to get true clarity about what is enough is by declaration, by speaking (out loud, if necessary) what is enough for us.

For example, you could declare,

“Five hours each week of quality time with my lover is enough for me,” or

“I can stay organized enough by spending 20 minutes a day on organization,” or

“Earning at least $4000 a month is enough for me.”

Of course, once a declaration is made, you may need to adjust your actions to align with your declaration.

Think of at least one area of your life where you have not created clarity about what is enough.

Honor yourself for the courage to decide and declare what is enough.

"Nothing is enough for the man to whom enough is too little."

—Epicurus (circa 341-270 BC, Greek philosopher)
